We will be discussing and demonstrating remedial foods that avoid common allergens.
Food allergies are often due to under-digested complex protein molecules in foods, coupled with a weak digestive system. Hence, in an allergen-free diet, we use a two-pronged attack of avoiding known allergens and introducing foods with known gut-healing properties.
Known allergens would include gluten, which plays a role in the ‘leaky gut syndrome’. Foods containing forms of wheat, barley, rye and oats contain ‘gluten’, a sticky protein which is thought to cause an inflammatory response in some individuals. Too much ‘gluten’ causes the release of zonulin, a substance which unlocks epithelial junctions causing undigested food to leak into the system. The inability to digest nut proteins, foods with excess yeasts, processed foods and refined sugar also encourage the growth of ‘bad’ bacteria.
Kee Yew will showcase specific foods that can help to heal the digestive system. Fruit and vegetables rich in soluble fibre, lactic acid enriched fermented bread and gut cleansing herbs all play a role.
